Need for Speed

I was born with a lead foot.

When I got my license [a month after my 16th b-day since I got my permit late] I drove my granny’s brown station wagon. She practically paid me to take it. I got it for free plus 20 bucks in gas. HA. it was a dented brown turd with chipped paint and a droopy headliner. We called it the turd mobile. I loved it. I added to its style with a set of fake spinner rims and some beads hanging on the mirror.
I could drive all the cheerleaders in it which was awesome for toilet papering, well until we stalled and it started smoking. It stalled A LOT and sometimes almost always in the most inconvenient times, like in the middle of the Cable Rd-Allentown intersection, or sideways while attempting to make a U-turn on 81 WITH CARS COMING FROM BOTH DIRECTIONS!!  I ramped the railroad tracks on Monfort Rd. with it and got some awesome air, hit my share of trash cans, signs, animals, and even ran over a telephone pole that was laying down for a parking marker at the soccer fields right in front of my parents and other spencervillians. After about a year of terrorizing the car and adding a few more dents and scratches to the ones my granny made, the whole dash board shorted out and left me puttering to a final stop.

I borrowed a couple cars from friends and family in the meantime and ended up driving my aunts Daewoo for a longer period while searching for a car. THEN the engine blew up while driving to school one morning and I was once again car-less. I bummed a ride from pretty much anyone that would drive me to and from school and my parents took me to work at night. Then I bought my awesome green Intrepid.

I loved that car. I got it for an awesome deal and it ran great. I would probably still be driving it today if I hadn’t fallen asleep at the wheel and smashed it into a telephone pole on Zion Church Rd. about 2 minutes away from my house. Yeah, it was the scariest moment in my life, well, to that point of my life anyway. I had my cruise set at 55 since I had a record of violations up to that point [I’ll get to that in a moment]. I knew when leaving Delphos that I was tired, so I blared my music and had my hand out my window to keep me awake on the way home but apparently that wasn’t enough. My mom had been warning me that I had been “burning my candles at both ends” by closing late nights at work and getting up for 6am cheer practice 5 days a week but I didn’t listen. That night I wanted to stay out since I had been working so much but I had to get home before opening Subway the next morning. Little did I know I would have to call Todd at 12am to tell him I was going to the hospital instead of baking bread.

The last moment I remember was turning on to Zion Church Road.  I woke up about a mile and a half down the road to my car slanting down to the left side and a SMASH while seeing a pole right in front of my face. I traveled THROUGH the pole and landed in one of Tyler’s friends’ yards. [where I was later told a giant tree stood the summer before] Of course the power was out since the top of the pole connected to the one I hit had fallen along with the transformer. Soon enough Mr. and Mrs. Bockey stumbled out to me. I was screaming on the phone to my parents while standing on the other side of the road. [yeah I know, that was stupid when power lines were down but I was freaking out since my car was smoking] The first thing I did when I came to a stop was turn off the ignition [even though my car was not running] my hood was smoking and I reached around the passenger floor while shaking uncontrollably to find my phone. I was screaming the WHOLE time on and off between breaths and THAT’S what woke them up. [anyone that really knows me will understand]
When my parents and some friends got there the police were soon to follow. I told them I had my seat belt on which I hadn’t and that a deer ran out in front of me. [I know, I know.] I got checked out of the hospital and everything came back normal, well at least normal for me. :P I was so lucky that all I had were two bruised knees [mom warned me about sitting too close to the dash board too] and I was a bit sore but it was nothing considering the police had a body bag ready when they saw my car and the pole in half. They said almost every time there is a pole involved there is a fatality. They kept asking me who was driving. It took me 3 times to convince them it was me.  God sure was with me that night!!

This sat in my driveway for months.. a constant reminder.
What was left of the top of the telephone pole I took out.

I drove some friends’ cars before buying my tan Oldsmobile from Hannah Stober. Then after saving more money I bought the sweet car I currently drive, my dark blue Pontiac G6. J

All that being said.. there were less-scary “incidents” throughout my driving experience. Almost too many to remember so let me log them here: [hopefully I don’t add to this list anytime soon]

~54 in a 35 in the turd [first offense-cop let me off with a warning]
~Left turn on red at the only stop light in Spencerville [week before 17th b-day-another warning-she said "happy birthday"]
~72 in a 55 on my way to see Haley play softball-TICKET L State Highway Patrol
**I hit a few signs and got stuck in snow/mud between here but never encountered the police, oh and I've gone through my share of tires too**
~54 in a “25” TICKET by a creepo cop but got in removed after months in and out of court.

** Let me explain this one**

I had just picked up my aunts Daewoo that I mentioned above. Before leaving, my mom said not to speed on my way to cheer practice. [I should REALLY start listening to my mom!!] Anyway,  it was on Allentown road after Tom Ahls and before Eastown  Rd. He pulled me over doing “54” even though I was not. I was so upset.

He explained it was a construction zone and I said "there are no signs posted and it's 6:40pm, no one is working" He was a jerk and said that by signing my ticket I was only acknowledging that I would go to court and that I could plead whatever I wanted to the judge. So driving away I called my mom and was flipping out. THEN I saw those dang blue and red lights again a few minutes later.  WHAT NOW!!!??? I hung up and looked in my mirror and it was the same cop motioning me to pull in the church parking lot before leaving Lima where it turns to 55mph. I was not speeding and I had my seat belt on.

I pulled in the parking lot thinking he was just making it safe since it was on a curve and then while walking up he removed his hat. I asked him what I did and he said “oh no Miss, I just forgot to ask you a few questions since you are a minor.” Clueless about standard procedure, I gave him the information he asked for, like where I WORKED and specifically which Subway, where I went to school and what GRADE I was in, and then asked me to write my number and address down for him. I seriously was so flustered and scared to dispute it but after driving off for the second time I called my mom again. She was livid when she heard what he asked and we decided we WERE going to fight it in court not only because I could lose my license but because what he did was so unprofessional.

Not only did he creep me out that day but HE  DROVE  BY  ME  IN  SPENCERVILLE  2 DAYS  LATER WHILE  I WAS GETTING OFF WORK!!  [He was an Allen Co. Sheriff but had to business in our town] I made sure to bring that up to the judge and after months of court visits all charges were dropped. The judge made it clear he had no right asking me those questions and the cop didn’t even show up to court. FREAK!!

Okay back to my list
~Ran a stop sign on Defiance Trail-let off with a warning [he didn’t clock me...phew]
~Pulled over for “no use of turn signal” –it was late and he wanted an excuse-another warning
~Pulled over for “suspicious driving” in Spencerville-warning
~Pulled over for “suspicious driving” in Spencerville AGAIN-warning
~54 in a “45” –on 117 where it turns 55. QUESTIONABLE but I got a ticket.
[This was during the time frame that I was working until close at Subway and getting up at 5:30 to work at HealthPro]

Hopefully that’s it for quite a while. Isn’t that enough?

Gosh, my brother starts driving next month.    PLEASE don’t let him be half as bad as me!!

After thought: One of the times I blew my tire, I was stranded out in the country on my way to Audrey Hobbs house. Because I didn't have a cell phone, I had to drive on my rims for a couple miles!! Tuzz put my spare on for me once I got there.. I told my parents it was time for me to finally get a cell phone [I was the last of all my friends to anyway]

Well I have to add to it. I should prob start dating these entries.

I got pulled over last night/this morning after leaving a friends birthday celebration at Twist and Shout. He said he pulled me over for my license plate light being out..really I knew he saw me pull out of Twist. Of course he asked me if I had been drinking and I said no. I had drove some people up there and was on my way home since they lived in Lima and found other rides home. He still had me do a sobriety test and after about 3 min of watching the stupid pen back forth up down up down right left right left..etc. He [and the second sheriff car he had called] let me go and said it was good I had been the DD and to get my license plate light fixed.
So I pretty much chalked it up to them trying to meet a quota and wanted to try to get a DUI.. but I left ticket free. Best of all, I checked my light and guess what? It was not out, I knew it. Ha!

I got pulled over on St. Rt. 81 by a State Highway Patrol for doing 84 in a 55. I knowwww. I was on my way to HSM for church and was in my zone. Totally didn't even know I was going that fast and even saw him but didn't slow down since I thought I was fine. Siiigh, I REALLY need to use my cruise. Anyway, obviously he cited me. 2 points on my license and $110.00 fine. I already mailed it to the court house. He was nice though. He could have added 2 more points for wreck less operation, but didn't. Somehow he knew I went to LimaCC AND knew I worked in the nursery. I'm not sure if it showed up from my background check when he ran my license or HOW he knew that.. but he suggested I take back roads there lol. I have noticed a lot of cops have been patrolling 81 this week. I have used my cruise every day since then :) He asked if I was jamming to Chris Tomlin and I showed him the CD's, he knew of Sight Unseen and mentioned he played drums for a Baptist church in Lima. I still don't know how or if I should know him.. I wish I would have asked how he knew that I went to LimaCC.

UGH.. guess what.. I got pulled over. Those words are becoming far too routine for me. This time I was running late to my dentist appointment. State Highway Patrol again on, guess what road... yep, St. Rt. 81!! Clocked me 72 in a 55. This is my 3rd offense in a year, therefore I have to call the court before the 24th to verify if I need to make an appearance or not. If I do, I've been told that I can almost guarantee that a license suspension/driving school will be required. Along with the massive fine this will bring, my insurance will definitely go up again. I seriously need to start setting my cruise or I will have very high risk for many years (if not already). No 2 door red sports car purchases are in my future. I need to buy a low profile grandma van. I have a theory that all the surrounding police stations have my car on high radar. Realistically, I just need to slow down.

Come on now,
Friday the 13th, yep. Eh, it's not that bad..good thing I'm not superstitious. I unbelievably got pulled over again tonight. I did NOTHING wrong. Haley and I were on our way through Spencerville to drop her off after Crave. As I passed through town, a cop followed closely. Because of my violation 2 days ago, I was making sure I did everything right. I had no doubt I was fine..until once again blue and red flash in my rear view mirror. WHAT!? I flipped and told Haley this is ridiculous, I didn't do anything!! Up walks officer Miller.. sigh thank goodness, someone I know. He informs me my license plate light is out and I think to myself.. not again. I told him I had no idea and that it must have just gone out. We have a small chat and after bringing up the fact that I was on my 3rd citation in a year span, he paused and asked if I was driving under a suspended license.  Uhm, not that I know of. He asks for my ID and calls it in...waiting for a response, he asks if I was nervous.. I wasn't until he informed me I may be driving under suspension. A reply comes over his speaker "Corina Reynolds license # blah blah blah , is clear. PHEW!! :) We continued to chat about what may possibly happen to me if I am required to appear in court. He informed me he had quite the record too before becoming a cop. How ironic would that be... for me to become an officer!? Goodness.

Siiigh, so this makes hmm let's see, 14 times getting pulled over now with 5 of them being actual violations. (Well, 4 because the one was dropped) but due to my wreck I do still have 5 violations. WOW. I wonder how many points are currently on my record.
Praying I don't get pulled over anymore before I'm 25. I believe that is when points are dropped again? Either way, I seriously must set my cruise and be on my best behavior. New goal: NO MORE VIOLATIONS UNTIL AT LEAST 2014. I'm not sure how realistic that is, but I am definitely going to try.
